POLICE have started patrols in a public park after “large groups” flouted social distancing rules on Saturday.

Horsham Police have also issued a dispersal order on Horsham Park until 2am in a bid to stop the gatherings.

A spokesman said: “We are aware of large groups of people in Horsham Park this evening, in breach of coronavirus restrictions.

“A dispersal order has been put in place for the park until 2am to prevent further antisocial behaviour.

“Officers will patrol the area to ensure everyone complies.”

Though many lockdown measures have been eased recently, with non-essential retailers now allowed to open and groups of six allowed to meet in outdoor spaces, social distancing rules remain in place.

These urge people to stay two metres away from people they do not live with, and forbid mass gatherings.

Sussex Police officers continue to patrol across the county, reminding people of these rules.

A team from Brighton and Hove took to the city’s seafront on Friday night, walking along Hove Lawns, “engaging with small groups and advising the Government Covid-19 guidelines”.
