Concerns for the welfare of a man sparked an emergency response on the coast.

Dorset Police, West Bay Coastguard and Lyme Regis Coastguard were called just after 9pm on Friday.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "Dorset Police received a report at 9.10pm on Friday, June 19 raising concern for the welfare of a man at West Bay in Bridport. Officers attended and carried out searches of the area. The man was located at around 9.45pm and taken to receive the appropriate care."

The West Bay Coastguard team was also called to help police locate the man.

A spokesman said: "West Bay Officers were alerted on Friday evening by Solent Coastguard NMOC (National Maritime Operations Centre) to a request for assistance from Dorset Police with an incident in West Bay.

"Ten Officers including the team's station officer and deputy station officer along with the Lyme Regis Coastguard Rescue Team and Dorset Police responded to West Bay. The incident was successfully concluded a short time later by Dorset Police and all coastguard assets were stood down."
