HUGE flames engulfed a barn as livestock were shepherded to safety.

Fire crews from Sussex and Hampshire rushed to the scene in Treyford, near Chichester, last night to tackle the inferno.

A team from Midhurst were called shortly after 9pm and arrived to find a ferocious blaze raging in the barn.

The Argus:

Providing updates from the scene, the station said farm animals had been "moved to a place of safety" amid ongoing efforts to tame the flames.

They were joined at the scene by crews from Petworth, Bordon, Petersfield, Chichester, Billingshurst and Horsham.

At 11.20pm, with the fire already having been burning for two hours, the team from Midhurst provided an update.

The Argus:

A spokesman said teams were working alongside farmers to extinguish the fire, with hay that was stored inside the barn having caught alight.

He confirmed that all livestock had been evacuated safely.

At 2.32am, the Midhurst team handed the incident over to colleagues from Chichester and Horsham, who they said would remain at the scene for some time.
