A PERSON has died after being hit by a train.

Emergency services attended the scene at Norman's Bay Railway Station in the early hours of this morning.

All lines were blocked between Eastbourne and Ashford International for more than two hours as a result.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "British Transport Police were called at 5.06am to Norman’s Bay station following a report of a casualty on the tracks.

"Officers attended, but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious."

Southern Rail said that all lines were closed between Eastbourne and Ashford International after the incident, and rail replacement bus services were put in place until about 8.30am.

Trains are now running between the two stations, but the company warned they "may still be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes".

A Southern Rail spokesman said: "Trains are able to move again but remain disrupted as Southern work to get trains running back on time.

"A number of trains that operate the Ashford International to Eastbourne service are out of position as a result of this incident. There are some cancellations on this route as result.

"Please delay your journey this morning and only travel if you absolutely have to. If you are already on the train or must travel now, your journey will take a lot longer."
