AN ICE cream van has just pulled up across the road.
Back in the early 1960s I lived at Rotherfield Crescent in Hollingbury.
From what I remember, we had five ice cream vans visiting a day back then.
They were Walls, Lyons Maid, Eldorado, Mr Whippy, Mr Softee.
My favourite was Lyons Maid.
In June 1963 there was a top 20 hit record called Ice Cream Man by The Tornadoes.
It certainly got us in the mood for summer.
Billy Fury also had a big hit called, yes you got it, In Summer.
I had better stop now, otherwise I will be waxing lyrical about the hits of 1963.
This was the year of my last few weeks at school.
Then I got a job in a factory. When I got paid, it was great.
