A WOMAN has died after falling ill on the beach.

Part of Worthing seaside on the west side of the pier has been taped off this afternoon.

Adur and Worthing Police said: "Emergency services responded to an incident on Worthing seafront around midday today.

"A woman, believed to be in her 50s, is reported to have suffered a medical episode and has sadly died.

"Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this difficult time."

An air ambulance landed on the sand at about midday and police officers can be seen speaking to people on the shore.

Pictures from the scene show teams of paramedics in Hazmat suits crowding around a person lying on the beach. 

Witnesses say there are seven police cars and three ambulances parked along Marina Parade.

A spokesman for the South East Coast Ambulance Service said: "Sadly, despite the efforts of everyone at the scene a woman has sadly died."
