A NEW start-up is offering high quality meat boxes delivered to your door.

Fresh Meat Daily was launched online last week as a sister company to Blakes Foods in Upper Hollingdean Road in Brighton.

Marketing manager Alexandra John said: “Blakes Foods supplies all meat to pubs and restaurants in the BN1 post code, but obviously when coronavirus hit the hospitality industry died overnight, so Fresh Meat Daily was born out of that.

“All our meat is really high quality and high welfare.

“It is all from UK and Irish farms only and everything is organic, free range and grass-fed.

“Especially during this crisis, I think people have become a lot more interested in where their food comes from.

“It’s absolutely crazy when you hear about chlorinated chicken in America or the terrible welfare conditions for pigs in places like Holland.

“With Brexit, we also really wanted to support local farms and British business.”

Fresh Meat Daily offers prepared meat boxes for different tastes and occasions, including a summer barbecue meat box, a clean and lean meat box for those on a health kick and a meat for the week box, which is suitable for families.

Alexandra said: “We do a really nice herb-fed chicken, where they’re free to roam around in the fields and it’s actually the best chicken I’ve ever tasted.

“We are still looking for good game suppliers as the welfare standards are sadly not so good for birds.

“We believe it’s really important.”

Alexandra said Fresh Meat Daily aims to bring restaurant-quality produce to people’s homes at affordable prices, which are comparable or cheaper than supermarkets, with much better animal welfare standards.

There is even a Michelin-star level steak on offer, as well as gluten-free options on burgers, a wide range of sausages, mince and different joints of lamb, beef and pork.

Alexandra said: “We want to provide people with the food they would normally be able to enjoy out in restaurants.

“A lot of local chefs have been promoting us on social media, with recipes for people to do at home.

“It’s really interesting as there’s a whole new breed of home chefs and people who really love cooking which has absolutely taken off in lockdown.

“A lot of them are only in their twenties and they’re making things like oxtail croquettes – it’s great.”
