TWO more people have tested positive for coronavirus in Sussex, according to the latest figures.

There were no more cases recorded in Brighton and Hove, where the total number of confirmed cases stands at 489.

One person tested positive for the virus in East Sussex over the weekend, bringing the total number for the area to 779.

West Sussex also recorded a new case, bringing the total figure to 1,378.

Nationally, statistics from the Department of Health and Social Care showed there were 901 additional cases recorded yesterday, which means the total number of cases now stands at 311,151.

There were 36 more Covid-19-related deaths recorded across the country, according to Government data.

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust recorded one fatality, according to the latest figures from NHS England.

The total number of deaths in hospitals run by the trust now stands at 256, which is the highest number of deaths recorded out of all the NHS trusts in Sussex.

East Sussex Healthcare NHS trust has recorded 86, Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust has recorded 18, and Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has recorded 112, while Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust has recorded 144, where the last fatality was recorded on June 21.

This means the total death toll for hospitals in Sussex now stands at 616 people.
