A ROBBER brandished a hammer during a raid on a Co-op.
Zack Staniford smashed plastic screens and demanded cash from staff at the shop in Meads Street, Eastbourne.
The 19-year-old labourer got away with £385 during the “terrifying attack”at 9.20pm on May 26.
But he was rumbled because of his distinctive tattoo on the top of his hand which could be seen on CCTV.
Staniford, of Cavendish Place, Eastbourne, admitted robbery and possession of a bladed article in public.
He was also sentenced for a separate robbery and possession of a weapon.
At Hove Crown Court he was caged for three years in a young offenders institution for the crimes.
Detective Constable Elliott Lander said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the staff members working in the shop at the time, who were unhurt but understandably very shaken by what happened.
“Thanks to clear CCTV footage, witness reports and the vigilance of an officer on patrol, we were able to apprehend Staniford and secure a guilty plea in court.”
