ONE coronavirus-related death has been recorded in Sussex, according to the latest figures.

Data from NHS England shows one person died at a hospital operated by Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust during the latest reporting period.

The trust has now recorded a total of 113 Covid-19 deaths.

The figures refer to hospital patients who have died after either testing positive for the virus, or where Covid-19 was mentioned on their death certificate.

No other NHS trusts in Sussex have recorded fatalities and the figures remain the same as yesterday. Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust has recorded 144 deaths, East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust has reported 87 and Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust has recorded 18.

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust has recorded the highest number of fatalities during the pandemic, at 256.

Nationally, there have been 176 coronavirus deaths, according to figures from the Department for Health and Social Care.

It brings the total UK death toll to 43,906.

In Sussex five more cases have been confirmed in the past 24 hours. East Sussex recorded three more cases, bringing the total number to 785, while West Sussex recorded two more, bringing its total to 1,380.

Brighton and Hove recorded no additional cases, and the total stands at 490.

Across the UK, 829 new cases have been confirmed, which brings the total number to 313,483.
