A SEAFRONT big wheel is set to open next week with safety measures in place to ensure social distancing.

The Eastbourne Eye is opening on the Western Lawns next Thursday, July 9 for just over three weeks until August 2.

The 35 metre high wheel will provide striking views across the town for residents and visitors as lockdown restrictions are eased further.

However each viewing pod will be restricted to members of one household and cleaning will take place after each ride.

Each person will have to apply compulsory hand sanitiser before entering the pod and there will be a socially distanced queuing system in place.

Bungee trampolines will also provide another fun seafront attraction for children alongside the big wheel, with tickets priced at £5 per child.

The Eastbourne Eye will be open between 11am and 8pm from Sunday to Thursday and will open slightly longer on Fridays and Saturdays, from 10am until 9pm.

Tickets are available on site and are priced at £5 for adults and £4 for children under 1.4 metres.

Family tickets are also available at £15 for two adults and two children or for one adult and three children.
