TODAY was the first time in months I had, repeat had, to drive into Brighton and it is not an experience I look forward to repeating any time soon.

The A259 was lined both sides with cars and vans from the Marina to the Palace Pier.

I do not exaggerate, there was not a parking space to be had anywhere at all.

Nose to tail. Likewise the side roads.

What came to mind was the council’s plans for the future.

A car free Brighton. Cycles “Uber Alles”.

There are even rumours that they are trying get a stage of The Tour of France for Brighton.

I ask where are all these cars going to go, for are real people going to give them up to satisfy the whim of a vocal minority?

A minority who do not pay an iota in tax for using the roads. I don’t think so.

I saw 200 to 300 cars parked and not one cycle being ridden during my journey.

How much money will the council lose in parking fees and fines and the Government in road tax?

Have they thought at all about that scenario?

Yes I expect a barrage from this cycling minority but please answer the question.

Where are the cars going to go and are people going to give them up?

My second thought was that we should rename the town hall as The Asylum with the councillors as the inmates.

But it already appears the inmates have already taken over The Asylum.

They allow unlimited housing development but want to remove cars. Am I missing something?

I don’t wish to be rude but I can think of no other way of expressing my opinion.

What is happening to Brighton in recent times brings tears to my eyes.

My wife, who was born in Hove many years ago, shakes her head in despair.

Am I alone in my feelings?

I don’t think after regularly reading the contributions of readers whose opinions are expressed on the letters page.
