LANDMARKS will light up red tonight to raise awareness of the struggling entertainments industry.

Brighton Palace Pier and the Brighton Dome will be two of at least 500 buildings across the country to light up “emergency red” tonight as part of the #LightItInRed online campaign.

The city’s venues have been closed since March with no reopening date in sight, putting them under huge financial pressure.

Industry body the Professional Lighting and Sound Association, based in Eastbourne, said £1.5 billion of Government support for the arts industry announced yesterday was “progress” but a drop in the bucket for the industry.

Managing director Peter Heath said: “There are thousands of businesses and people involved in live productions outside of theatres who are not being taken into consideration and do not know when they will be returning to work.

“The #LightItInRed campaign is a warning to the Government that we can expect the production ecosystem to collapse before spring next year unless we see an extension of the furlough scheme, capital grants and the self-employed income protection scheme, at the very least.”
