Police have confirmed that a man has died following a serious lorry crash on the M25 near the Dartford Crossing on July 7.

Emergency services, including Kent Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service, were called to the scene of a 'serious collision' on the M25 at around 3:30pm on Tuesday.

The crash, which is thought to have only involved one vehicle, occurred on the anticlockwise carriageway between junction 2 for the Darenth Interchange and junction 1A for the Dartford Tunnel.

Pictures from the scene show that the lorry had ploughed into a barrier on the major road, with the cab off the road and the trailer straddling two lanes.

There were also unconfirmed reports that the driver had suffered a medical emergency.

Kent Police have now confirmed that a 58-year-old from West Yorkshire, understood to be the driver of the lorry, has died.

The road was completely shut heading anticlockwise towards Essex and the Dartford Tunnel whilst attempts to recover the lorry were underway.

The incident caused delays of up to two hours, leading to more than seven miles of backed-up traffic, with motorists told to avoid the area.

In a statement, the police force said: "Kent Police was called to the M25 between junction 1b and 1a at 3.23pm on Tuesday, 7 July 2020 following a report of a serious road traffic collision involving one vehicle.

"The South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended the scene where a 58-year-old man from West Yorkshire was declared deceased."
