COULD Brighton and Hove City Council please invest in the very basic facilities for residents and visitors, namely public drinking fountains and public toilets?

We have entered another summer where these are very lacking.

These facilities were originally provided by our wise Victorian ancestors in public parks and other public spaces, but have been allowed to fall into disrepair or deliberately closed.

People still need to drink, especially in hot weather.

They should not be forced to buy expensive, environmentally damaging bottled water that has travelled hundreds of miles to reach them.

Bottled water is no safer than tap water, this has been confirmed in many tests.

We also need to use the toilet after we have drunk and eaten.

Also could we have solar panels installed on every roof in Brighton and all of southern England?

I have sometimes taken bus rides and noted how few roofs have them.

This could generate enormous amounts of cheap green electricity.

We could also clean and reuse sewerage water and desalinate sea water.

This would solve water shortages and help to prevent rivers being depleted of water.

It is technically feasible and all the above measures would create thousands of new useful green jobs.

Let’s expand our horizons and build better and more sustainably.
