I AND, I reckon, many others (after you demanded that Worthing town councillor Neil Parkin apologised for calling Brighton a dump, The Argus, July 10) would say to you Councillor Nancy Platts, get out of your ivory tower and then get on your bike, cycle over to Worthing and or Eastbourne to see how conspicuously clean these towns are kept, by the very absence of litter, graffiti, aggressive junkies and beggars.

Then on your return cycle the city centre streets of the once clean city of Brighton and you might then realise it is you who should be doing the apologising to Neil Parkin as well as the Brighton citizens for his truthful comment that Brighton, under your watch, has declined into a dump.

Also while you are at it cycle over to the Cityclean depot and say thank you to our great street cleaners who to my mind are flogging a dead horse by doing the best they can to make Brighton look smart like it used to be before your administration took control.

In the article by Jody Doherty-Cove, you state Cllr Parkin’s comments are damaging to Brighton and Hove.

Well, I say to you Cllr Platts, look into your mirror and you will see the one person in charge who is truly responsible for damaging the city.

So, please get your finger out and try to reverse the problem.

Honorary Alderman Geoff Wells

Past city councillor for the Woodingdean Ward
