A DRINK driver who caused a crash has been ordered to complete treatment for alcohol dependency.

Rupert Best was stopped during lockdown while driving a Citroen in Burwash, where the accident happened.

The 42-year-old gave a positive breath test which was four times the legal limit.

His reading was 143 microgrammes (mcg) of alcohol per 100 millilitres (ml) of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg per 100ml.

Best, of Burwash Road, Heathfield, was given a 12-week suspended sentence.

Hastings Magistrates’ Court noted the “high reading”.

He was ordered to complete six months of alcohol dependency treatment, with a £128 surcharge and £85 costs.

Magistrate David Short also banned Best from driving for two years and ten months.
