A VOCATIONAL training centre is to reopen after months of teaching students online.

Skills Training UK’s Brighton Centre in North Road offers courses for young people to help them begin their careers.

It has been closed amid the coronavirus pandemic but has been running courses online with virtual classrooms and one-to-one video support.

Now, the centre is on track to reopen early next month in accordance with the latest Government guidelines, but will continue delivering its courses and support online.

Young people in England must remain in education until age 18 and the company wants to highlight its range of free vocational

courses for 16 to 24-year-olds who want an alternative to college and sixth form.

The Brighton Centre offers two routes for young people – a range of Level 2 BTec qualifications, including English and maths for 16 to 18-year-olds, and traineeships for 16 to 24-year-olds.

All routes offer qualifications in specific work sectors, such as business administration, customer service, and health and social care.

Graham Clarke, director of education and social mobility at Skills Training UK, said: “We know this has been a challenging time for everyone and I would like to thank our fantastic tutors, staff and learners for their hard work and adapting quickly and effectively to the pandemic.

“The situation is evolving rapidly and we may need to respond to unknown future challenges but we are excited to be preparing to reopen our Brighton Centre for early August as safely and as responsibly as possible, whilst still providing online courses and support.

“We hope young people who might understandably be unsure about their post-16 education future will consider our programmes to help them reach their next level of study, an apprenticeship or full-time employment, with new employability skills and confidence.”

Skills Training UK won the Training Provider of the Year Award at the 2019 Times Educational Supplement FE Awards and is rated good by Ofsted.

The company said its tutors also provide careers advice and support with job searching, CV writing, and interview skills.

It also runs online adult classes for residents aged over 19 in Brighton.
