Four areas in Sussex with highest number of Covid-19 cases

An interactive map shows the four areas in Sussex where there have been more than three positive cases reported, from the week beginning Monday, July 13 until Sunday, July 19.

The data is provided by Public Health England and looks at cases by ‘Middle Super Output Area’ - a type of unit used in the reporting of small area statistics.

The map can be viewed by clicking here and by typing in the relevant postcode.

On the map, the areas in blue show places where between three and nine positive cases were recorded.

These include three areas in Eastbourne.

Langney East had the highest number of cases, with five people testing positive.

Upperton had three positive cases within the given time period, while Roselands also had three.

The Bewbush area in Crawley recorded three positive Covid-19 cases

Three cases were also recorded within the Bewbush area in Crawley.

Areas shown on the map in light grey may have had positive cases reported, but the number falls below three.

Most of Sussex is light grey, including the whole of Brighton and Hove, as well as Worthing, Lewes and Haywards Heath.

Two pubs were forced to close this week due to coronavirus cases. 

The Bibendum Bar and Restaurant in Eastbourne closed after a healthcare worker who had visited the venue tested positive, and The Downsman in Crawley closed when two staff members were found to have the virus.

According to the latest figures from Public Health England released today, five new cases were reported across the whole of Brighton and Hove, and there are now 791 cases in the city.

Across East Sussex, three more cases were recorded, bringing the total number to 1,587.

Five more cases were also reported in West Sussex, where there is now 2,764 cases.

Nationally, 769 more cases were reported today, bringing the UK total to 297,146.

There were 53 new deaths reported across the country, which is 26 fewer than the previous day.

It brings the total national death toll to 45,554.

In Sussex, healthcare trusts in the county reported no new fatalities today. 

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust has so far recorded 260 deaths, while Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust has reported 148. 

Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust has confirmed 113 fatalities, East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust has recorded 97 and Sussex Community Foundation Trust has recorded 18.
