A NUMBER of important topics were due to be debated at yesterday’s full council meeting.

Two opposing petitions calling for Madeira Drive to be reopened or closed until the end of the year were due for debate, as were two Tory motions on the issue.

Similarly, councillors were set to discuss two rival petitions concerning the Old Shoreham Road cycle lane.

But with Brighton and Hove City Council transitioning from a Labour administration to a Green council, officers felt it would be unfair for the new leadership to tackle these issues on its first day.

So instead a special full council meeting will be held either on August 6 or August 13 to discuss these heated topics – and some others.

These include a Green motion calling on the city council to pledge to be “anti-racist” and to set up talks between political leaders and Black Lives Matter activists.
