ONE person has died after testing positive for coronavirus.

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust recorded the death during the latest reporting period, bringing the total number of fatalities for the trust to 98.

The trust runs Conquest Hospital in St Leonards-on-Sea, Eastbourne District General Hospital and Bexhill Hospital, as well as Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital. 

Figures for NHS trusts across the rest of the county remained the same.

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust has so far recorded 260 deaths, while Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust has reported 148.

Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust has confirmed 113 fatalities and Sussex Community Foundation Trust has recorded 18.

Across the UK there were 123 deaths in the latest 24-hour period, an increase of 70 on the yesterday’s figure.

The total death toll is now 45,677.

In Sussex, the number of confirmed cases rose across the county.

Two more cases were recorded in Brighton and Hove, where the total is now 793.

East Sussex reported five more cases, bringing its total to 1,592.

Four more cases were reported in West Sussex, which has the highest number of cases at 2,768.

Nationally, 770 more cases were reported today, which is just one more than the yesterday.

Across the country, 297,914 people are now confirmed to have coronavirus.
