A FATHER whose son was born prematurely has praised the hospital which cared for his baby for its “incredible work”.

Matt Cullimore from Henfield said the moment he found out his partner Jasmine had been rushed to hospital for an emergency caesarean section was “extremely stressful”.

The 30-year-old said: “I got a phone call and she had been taken to hospital as she had pre-eclampsia which causes high blood pressure.

“She gave birth to Logan and then had to go into intensive care and Logan was put in an incubator.

“It was all very dramatic. Jasmine didn’t even get to meet Logan for a few days and he had to stay at the Royal Alex for six weeks.”

Born in May last year, Logan weighed less than 2lb.

While at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton, Matt noticed stickers for Rockinghorse, the hospital’s official charity, on Logan’s incubator.

He said: “Before Logan was born I wasn’t aware of Rockinghorse.

“They’re not a big charity but they do amazing work. The support they give to the Trevor Mann baby unit helped them look after Logan and we’re so appreciative.

“I was looking for a charity to support as I had just started a YouTube channel and thought, if there’s anything I can do to help them, I will.”

Matt, who created a Pokemon YouTube channel which has a loyal following, recently held a 24-hour live-stream gaming session and raised more than £1,100 for Rockinghorse.

Matt, who also has son Hugo, three, said: “I’ve got an amazing community with the channel and I often do raffles and giveaways to raise money for Rockinghorse.

"This stream was one of the biggest challenges I have ever taken on but quickly became one of the proudest moments for me in my short YouTube career.

"I started planning this stream over three months ago, preparing it along with building the prizes and finding sponsors. Once the stream started and the donations came rolling in the nerves quickly went away.”

Matt said he is even more determined to help the charity as they have lost funding amid the coronavirus crisis.

He added: "Rockinghorse has lost thousands due to the pandemic.

“Logan is one now and he’s still tiny but he’s very healthy.

"The care they gave him at the Trevor Mann baby unit was incredible.”
