A POLICE helicopter has been scrambled after reports of boy racers driving along main routes.

There are reports of a “car meet” by enthusiasts in Sussex, and officers have responded to reports of antisocial driving on the A23 and A27.

The chopper is up in the air, and there have been unconfirmed reports that vehicles have been turned away from Fort Road in Newhaven and at Seaford.

Police in Lewes said: “We are aware and have responded to several reports of antisocial driving in the area this afternoon.

“Motorists are reminded that any incidents of dangerous or antisocial driving will not be tolerated.”

In a statement Sussex Police said: “We are aware and have responded to several reports of antisocial driving on parts of the A23 and A27.

“A number of tickets have already been issued for speeding and number plate offences. We’d like to remind motorists that incidents of antisocial or dangerous driving will not be tolerated.

“We have been supported by the National Police Air Service helicopter and we have the authority to issue dispersal orders if necessary.”

Sussex Police has told drivers that dangerous driving will not be tolerated.
