A SHOPPING centre boss is urging customers to comply with updated face mask rules.

A new Government ruling which came into effect on Friday means it is now mandatory to wear a face covering inside shops and supermarkets, as well as indoor shopping centres such as Churchill Square in Brighton.

Mark Buchanan-Smith, centre director at Churchill Square said: “Government guidance stating it now mandatory for face coverings to be worn inside shopping centres and its stores, will ensure a safer and much more comfortable environment for all.

“Working together as a community to protect ourselves and others will contribute to decreasing numbers of Covid cases and an easing of restrictions.

The Argus:

“The shopping centre’s management team would like to take this opportunity to thank customers for continuing to adapt positively to the new ways of operating at this time.”

Asked if it would be enforcing the new rules regarding face masks, a spokeswoman for the centre said customers would be “strongly encouraged” to wear them.

She said: “Churchill Square strongly encourages customers to kindly adhere to government guidance by protecting themselves and others with a mandatory face covering when visiting the shopping centre and our stores.

“We are all working together to encourage compliance of the law. We ask for visitors to be smart and stay safe.”
