THERE have been no Covid deaths in Sussex hospitals for 12 days.
That is the longest period since the pandemic began in March.
In Brighton, the NHS has reported 148 deaths in hospital in total.
The total across the East Sussex NHS Trust, which covers the Conquest Hospital in Hastings and the Eastbourne District General Hospital, stands at 99.
Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust, which covers Crawley, has recorded 260 coronavirus deaths, there have been 18 at the Sussex Community NHS Trust and 113 across the Western Sussex NHS Trust.
Nationwide, another 119 deaths were confirmed on Tuesday, July 28.
Meanwhile, the number of cases continues to grow, with 581 new infections bringing the national total to 300,692.
There were two new cases in Brighton and Hove, bringing the total to 807.
In West Sussex, the total also rose by four to 2,791 and in East Sussex, the number rose by two to 1,600 The last recorded death from coronavirus in Sussex was on July 16.
Worldwide, there have now been 16,729,838 cases and 658,974 deaths.
Yesterday, the head of Germany’s public health agency said he was “very concerned” by rising infections in the country.
Lothar Wieler, head of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), told reporters: “We are in the middle of a rapidly developing pandemic.”
In the past week the country has recorded 3,611 new infections.
