ARMED police arrested have arrested a man with an axe in the city centre.
Police were called shortly before 8pm to respond to reports of the axeman threatening passersby in North Street Brighton.
The man was then arrested by armed police near the clocktower.
A spokesman for the force said: “Police responded quickly to a report of a man threatening members of the public with an axe in North Street, just before 8pm.
“The man was arrested by firearm officers on suspicion of attempted GBH and possession of an offensive weapon.
“The axe was recovered and the suspect is in custody.
“No one has been hurt.”
