I was sorry to see that the council has allowed the clubhouse of the Hove Park Colts football club to fall into disrepair due to financial pressure (Letters, November 23).
However, this is a great opportunity for the club parents and members to show some community spirit.
As the club has a membership of around 150, I would estimate that at least 100 families are involved. These would be young and able-bodied.
Might I suggest that they have a meeting. There could be several volunteers to help renovate the clubhouse. Others could arrange some events or contribute some money in order to buy materials and specialist help.
The children could arrange a car-washing day or some other activity. I'm sure that with some effort the job could be done by the families.
The important by-product of this self-help project would be a rekindling of that community spirit and a pride in doing something for yourself, instead of sitting back and whingeing.
