I could not disagree more with Garry Saunders about the value of the exciting Telscombe to Ovingdean bus/cycle lanes - a joint venture between East Sussex County Council and Brighton and Hove City Council (Letters, November 22).

It should make substantial time savings for buses, and the bus company is considering enhanced services to Peacehaven.

I have great hopes that bus usage will increase substantially, as many motorists are attracted. This will significantly reduce westbound traffic queues. Engineers are also taking the opportunity to improve greatly pedestrian facilities.

However, concerns remain.

It will not be a bus lane that increases delays to eastbound traffic during evening peak but the decision to reduce the eastbound carriageway to one lane through the Rottingdean junction.

Unfortunately, the alternative of retaining the two eastbound lanes was not adopted.

I also have some capacity concerns about the signalised junctions at Saltdean and Peacehaven but the idea of retaining the roundabouts, with pelican crossing provision nearby, was again rejected.

While the bus is not ideal for everyone, it will offer many people a faster, more convenient journey.
