A MAN was arrested after reports of someone carrying a sword in a busy street.
Armed police were called to the scene in Western Road yesterday evening just before 5.30pm, near Farm Road and Brunswick Square.
A large number of officers were in attendance, including the tactical firearms unit and police dogs.
Initially officers could not locate anyone carrying a weapon, but a suspect was found later on last night and arrested.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "Police were called to a report of a man seen in possession of a sword in Western Road at 5.20pm yesterday.
"A 50-year-old man was located by officers and arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
"He remains in custody for questioning."
