A family who forked out hundreds of pounds on furniture have not had it delivered for nearly five months.

Tahir Anwar, 39, paid £200 for a dining table and six chairs from MFI in Carden Avenue, Hollingbury, Brighton, but the store has so far failed to deliver it.

Mr Anwar and his wife Ruqaya Tahir moved into their new house in Overhill, Southwick, in August but their three young children aged 12, nine and six have been left eating dinner on the floor in the front room.

Meanwhile Mr Anwa said he is still waiting for news about his furniture.

Mr Anwar, an IT contractor, said: "I've taken whole days off work when MFI gave a date for the delivery, but first of all they delivered just the table and took it away again. Then they delivered just the chairs and took them away again."

With Christmas just a month away the family are desperate for the furniture to arrive.

Mr Anwar said: "I'm so angry because all we wanted to do when we moved into the house was settle down.

"We had to cancel our house warming party because we can't entertain anyone.

"At the moment Christmas dinner will be impossible so we're looking to have Christmas at someone else's house which is sad.

"We bought a sofa set from DSS. When there was a delay getting the sofas over from Italy they gave us really nice replacements to use in the meantime and didn't ask us for a penny.

"The service from MFI leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

"It's like the right arm doesn't know what the left arm is doing.

"If you bought a car you wouldn't expect to wait 18 weeks for the engine to arrive."

MFI did not respond to The Argus.
