WH Smith might be axing 1,500 jobs after sales plummeted in lockdown.
An update from the company said it expected to make losses of between £70 million and 75 million and might be forced to cut 11 per cent of its workforce
WH Smith said it was a “very difficult decision”, but that it was committed to supporting colleagues throughout the process.
The chain has seven stores in Brighton and Hove.
They are in Preston Drove, Western Road, Garnet House, Queens Road, London Road, the Barry Building in Eastern Road and George Street.
The newsagent is the latest High Street name to consider cutting jobs amid the fallout caused by coronavirus.
The company has 612 High Street shops and employs more than 14,000 staff across the county.
