The Government failed to publish the latest coronavirus figures by the time The Argus went to press last night.

A message on its site said: “We have not received the latest data for cases and tests in England. We will update today’s records as soon as they become available. The deaths page is being redeveloped.”

The Government’s site has experienced problems recently. On Tuesday, it did not display a coronavirus death toll update, saying “technical difficulties” had got in the way.

But the NHS hospital totals were released – and showed no more people were reported to have died with the virus in Sussex. The latest figures for coronavirus cases were published at 4pm on Wednesday. They showed 826 cases had been recorded in Brighton and Hove. Nationally, the number of cases on Wednesday was 313,798, and the total number of deaths in the UK was 46,706 – up 77 on the previous day.

NHS figures showed no new deaths were reported in Sussex on Thursday. The total number of deaths at each of the trusts stayed the same: 148 across Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, 100 at the East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, 260 at the Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, 18 at Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust, and 113 at the Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
