I have a monthly account with a well known store in Brighton which I make certain I pay on time. A recent account was for £99.41 but I carelessly wrote the cheque for £91.41.
Imagine my shock when my next bill arrived with an interest charge of £3.50. Putting aside all the accounting jargon, I was in fact in debt to them to the sum of £8 for one month only, and for this I was charged £3.50. I may be financially naive but I find this outrageous.
No wonder the stores are able to announce large profits.
