A teenager has been banned from a town centre.

Duncan McDonald, 19, has been given an antisocial behaviour order (Asbo) following a series of incidents in Bognor.

He is the first person in Sussex to be banned from Bognor.

Sussex Police say McDonald had been in possession of an offensive weapon, had been guilty of verbal and physical abuse, causing harassment, alarm and offence to the public and being drunk.

The Asbo bans him from the town centre for the next three years and limits his activities in the whole county.

It stops him from behaving in a threatening, harassing or abusive way, or inciting others to do so.

He is not allowed to be drunk in a public place or drink booze in public with the exception of pubs or clubs or be in possession of any unsealed container which has alcohol in it.

To help enforce the order, posters and leaflets featuring McDonald's picture, name, date of birth and the conditions of his Asbo will be put up in and around the town and delivered to homes.

The aim is to encourage people to call police if they if they see him breaching the order.

McDonald, of no fixed address, was given the Asbo at at Chichester Magistrates Court last week (November 21).

Sergeant Craig Wilkie said: "Antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated and together with our partner agencies positive action will be taken.

"I was extremely pleased with the decision to serve Duncan McDonald with an Asbo.

"The restrictions set will prevent him from causing further problems within Sussex.

"If any of the restrictions are breached by McDonald he will be arrested and put before the courts.

"Others who act in a similar fashion need to be aware of the consequences their behaviour may lead to and the restrictions that can be put upon them."

The Asbo was served following months of work by police and Arun District Council's antisocial behaviour team.

Councillor Roger Elkins, Arun's cabinet member for community safety, said: "Duncan McDonald is now suffering the consequences of his own antisocial behaviour.

"I truly hope the measures that have been taken against him will send out a strong message to others that such behaviour will not be tolerated in Arun.

"In addition to police intelligence, a community order like this one relies on the public to notify the police if they see the conditions being breached.

"That is why we will be giving local shops and residents these leaflets and posters with the Asbo details on, so that anyone who sees McDonald in Bognor or committing antisocial acts knows to ring 999 immediately."
