A SERIAL thief has been jailed after attempting to steal a getaway car.
Terrence Winter stole a wallet from one car and attempted to steal a vehicle in Nutbourne Road, Pulborough.
He used the vehicle to ram a car driven by a neighbour who had pursued him.
Then the 47-year-old bolted as he was chased by police.
Winter, a prolific burglar, tried to hide in a summerhouse in the town, it was revealed.
But police brought in specialist PD Goose to track him down.
The six-year-old German Shepherd general purpose dog was able to sniff out Winter’s scent.
Winter was found in nearby Tudor Close, cowering under cushions in an attempt to disguise himself.
At Lewes Crown Court he admitted theft by finding, aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, and driving without a valid licence or insurance on February 23.
Winter, of Bognor High Street, also has convictions for burglary and theft, it was revealed.
He was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment and was banned from driving for two years and seven months. He must also pay £149 court costs.
