A MAN arrested on suspicion of drink-driving refused to provide a breath test.

Luke Chandler was so drunk that he abused police and resisted arrest. The 25-year-old from Wick had driven to Portsmouth in June when he was stopped.

He “point blank refused” to give a breath test but had “driven a long way” while “highly intoxicated”, Crawley magistrates heard.

Chandler, of Courtwick Road, Wick, admitted the failure and resisting arrest. He was given an eight-week suspended prison sentence and fined £80 with a £128 surcharge and £85 costs.

He was banned from driving for two years and eight months and must do 80 hours of unpaid work.
