Shoppers will be able to give the gift of life and be in with a chance to win Albion football memorabilia at the weekend.

Give 2 Live, a Hove-based transplant campaign group, will be in Brighton to sign up organ donors.

There will also be a chance for passers-by to sign a petition to change the law on organ donation. Currently, donors must register their names so that their organs can be harvested after their death.

Give 2 Live hopes to create a system whereby every single person is automatically a donor unless they choose to opt out.

Anyone signing to support the charity will be entered into a prize draw to win football items signed by Brighton and Hove Albion players. Give 2 Live was set up in September by Anita Hamilton, whose daughter Laura died days before her 21st birthday while waiting for a liver transplant. Since then 3,211 people with BN postcodes have registered as organ donors.

Mrs Hamilton and campaigners will wear purple in memory of Laura, who invited friends to dress in purple for her special pre-21st birthday party.

Give 2 Live will be at Churchill Square on Sunday from 11am to 5pm.
