A teacher has won a national sportswoman of the year award.
PE trainee Joanna Gardiner, pictured, received the Helen Rollason Award for Inspiration at The Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year awards.
Joanna, 23, is a volunteer on the Football 4 Peace project, which works to integrate Jewish and Arab children in Israel.
In March she ran a tournament in northern Israel for 50 girls in mixed-religion teams.
A student at the University of Brighton, she coaches youngsters at Peacehaven Community School as part of a training placement.
She has also been shortlisted for the BBC South East Sportswomen of the Year Award and Coach of the Year award at the Sussex Sports Awards.
