A ROAD was closed while the fire brigade was called in to rescue someone from a flat.

Police shut off Littlehampton Road in Worthing this morning over the incident.

Meanwhile residents then saw an aerial ladder platform being called in to begin the rescue.

A person had to be taken out of the property, which is situated in the main road A2032.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said its crews were called at 9.30am to help the South East Coast Ambulance Service to reach a patient.

The service was there “to assist in the rescue of a patient from a property”.

A joint fire control was set up, and the service said: “Control mobilised the aerial ladder platform and the heavy rescue tender from Worthing Fire Station to the scene, along with the technical rescue unit to provide support.

“Sussex Police closed Littlehampton Road to allow emergency service staff to carry out their work safely, and drivers are urged to avoid the area for the time being.”
