A NINE-YEAR-OLD cancer survivor is now the face of a high street giant’s charity campaign.

Pippa Vickers was diagnosed with rare acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in May 2017.

Doctors struggled for six weeks to find out what was wrong after she suffered from severe pains in her legs preventing her from sitting up.

Brave Pippa completed her treatment last year and has now been chosen as the face of retailer TK Maxx’s Give Up Clothes For Good campaign in support of Cancer Research UK.

The youngster from East Grinstead will feature on posters in shops around the country, encouraging people to donate unwanted clothes to their local branch to help raise money for the cancer charity.

Proud parents Laura and Tom say their daughter has been a “superstar” since her diagnosis.

“I knew there was something seriously wrong but I never thought it could be cancer,” said Laura.

“I cried. It was a shock but also relief that we had been given a diagnosis.

“Pippa has been a superstar. She always took her medication and didn’t complain.

“She matured so quickly after she was diagnosed.

“Her taste buds have returned and she was delighted when her consultant told her she didn’t need to shield in the vulnerable category.

“For Pippa this was a major step. It somehow removes that mental block of being vulnerable.”

Pippa is now looking forward to returning to Brambletye School and hopes to become a doctor at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London where she was treated.

But her new role as the face of TK Maxx’s cancer charity campaign has made her reconsider her future career.

“Pippa had an amazing day doing the photoshoot for the posters,” said mum Laura.

“She’s very happy in front of the camera and has since added modelling to her list of possible careers.”
