As the summer starts to draw to a close and our tummies wake up rumbling, what better way to spend the day than tucking in to one of these drool-worthy roasts.

It’s time to dig out the jumpers and jeans, grab your dog and get yourself down to the pub for a traditional British Sunday. 

The Coal Shed, Boyce's Street, BN1

Home of Brighton's sharing roast, the Sunday lunches at The Coal Shed are absolutely heaven sent. 

From the juiciest cuts of sirloin to some of the best wine in the city - talk about an opulent Sunday. 

If it ain't broke, don't fix it?

The only roast served at The Coal Shed is a whopping 500g aged sirloin-on-the-bone with beef fat potatoes, trimmings, Yorkshire pudding, beef jus and horseradish for two.

Lunch is served from midday and the Sunday roast costs £20 per person.  

The Sussex Yeoman, Guildford Road, BN1

Winner of the 'Best Sunday Roast' in the Brighton and Hove Food and Drinks Awards, The Sussex Yeoman is a must-try. 

The Yeoman roast includes seasonal vegetables, roasties, Yorkshire pudding and red wine gravy. There is a choice of: leg of lamb, free range chicken, wild venison haunch, topside of beef or slow-roasted, pulled shoulder of Sussex pork.

The standard roast costs £14.50 and vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options are available. 

Black Lion, Black Lion Street, BN1

Just 100 yards from the seafront is The Black Lion, nestled in the heart of the Laines on Black Lion Street. 

On Sundays the kitchen is open from midday until the last roast is gone so be sure to book to avoid disappointment. 

Roasts include a choice of buttermilk roasted chicken, sirloin of beef, pressed belly pork with crackling, mushroom and goats cheese wellington, pumpkin loaf or a changing weekly special. 

All Sunday lunches come with thyme roast potatoes, braised red cabbage, creamed leeks, swede puree, roasted root veg, greens, Yorkshire pudding and gravy - vegan exclusions apply.  

The price of a meat roast at The Black Lion starts at £14.

The Walrus, Ship Steet, BN1

Decadent dining on Ship Street is epitomised by The Walrus which is the ideal place for a special weekend family lunch. 

All roasts come with parsley and lemon roasted carrots, seasonal greens, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. 

The roast options include a 28-day-aged sirloin of beef, pork belly with crackling, half roast chicken with sage and onion stuffing or a mushroom and cashew roast.

A Sunday with meat starts at £14.   

The Chimney House, Upper Hamilton Road, BN1

The cosy community led pub, The Chimney House is located just North of Seven Dials and serves local, wild range and foraged meals. 

On Sundays the pub serves roasts and a range of light bar snacks from midday to 6pm.

All lunches are served with roast potatoes, roast carrots, beetroot, spring greens, vegetable puree, sauté summer vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and lashings of gravy. 

Roasts include dry ages topside of beef, roast chicken and stuffing or a walnut, barley, squash & courgette roast, starting at £14.
