Nine new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Sussex.

In Brighton and Hove, one person tested positive for the virus, bringing the total to 891.

Two new cases were reported in East Sussex, where the total is now 1,736, and six new cases were recorded in West Sussex, bringing the county’s figure to 2,984.

No new deaths were recorded in the county. The Sussex totals increased for the first time in almost a month on Tuesday, when two further coronavirus deaths were reported – one at the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, which has recorded 149 deaths, and one at the Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where the total is 114.

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust has recorded 100 deaths, Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust has reported 260, and there have been 18 at the Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust.

The total number of deaths recorded across Sussex hospitals is 641. Thirteen further coronavirus deaths were reported nationally, bringing the overall government figure to 41,527.

There were 1,735 new cases of the virus across the country, and the UK total is now 340,411.
