A spokesman for Stagecoach said: "Our Coastliner 700 services between Worthing and Brighton are diverting via Eastern Avenue and Boundary Road due to a police road closure at Lidl in Shoreham.

"A shuttle will operate between Kingston Lane and Portslade.

"Please allow extra time for your journey."

A spokesman for the AA also warned drivers of the road closure.

He said: "The road is closed due to an accident on the A259 Brighton Road both ways from Eastern Avenue to Kingston Lane.

"Traffic is coping well.

"The road has been shut since about 1am, affecting traffic between Norfolk Bridge and Southwick."

The Stagecoach spokesman provided an update at 8.20am to say the road had reopened and the company's Coastliner 700 services between Brighton and Worthing were "resuming the normal route through Shoreham".
