HAVING been seriously injured in a cycling accident many years ago it was disappointing to see in your recent article about cycling in The Argus that in five out of eight photos individuals were not wearing safety helmets.

I am generally in favour of cycle lanes but using the Old Shoreham Road as an example it is clear that the lanes between Hove and Portslade are under-used outside of rush hour.

In such cases could the cycle lanes be reserved for cyclists for specific times only around rush hour times?

This idea may not work in areas of heavy cycling usage but maybe in certain areas it would be a workable compromise.

Let's all work together and make the roads safe and viable for everyone's purpose.
