Salsa Tap has assembled an international collection of dancers and singers to start the month in style.

The Worthing-based company, which specialises in DVD salsa guides and documentaries, raised more than £5,000 for the Red Cross in Darfur with its Sudan Salsa Event.

The Corn Exchange's wooden floor makes it an ideal setting. The organisers were responsible for the recent Alex Wilson Salsa Orchestra event at the same venue and their documentary about the Afrocuban All Stars was also partly shot there.

The night will begin with local teachers taking classes at 7.15pm, followed by live acts, whose performances will be interspersed with short DJ sets. All levels of ability will be catered for and the bar will be open until midnight.

The line-up will include Ruth Merry, who has performed with Gladys Knight, local band Cuatros Monos (Four Monkeys) and ArtAndCompany, who will be showing people how to boogaloo, an increasingly popular Columbian dance which blends tango, salsa and jive.

Proceeds will help fund a low-budget feature film, which the organisers hope to shoot in Brighton and Havana. The narrative examines the initial romance and subsequent issues arising from an Englishwoman's love affair with a Cuban man. Local dancers will be involved in the project when production starts.
