CYCLISTS at an anti-cycle lane demonstration turned out to be people making a satire film.

Last weekend, a group of about 50 protesters gathered to voice their anger at several changes to Brighton and Hove’s roads in recent months.

It had been reported at the time that two cyclists attended as an anti-protest.

However, the pair have now released a satire film in which the die-hard cyclists call for a new bike lane on the motorway which is “at least as wide as a truck”.

The “counter-protesters” are actors Anna Moss, 37, and Lewes Klein, 26, both of Brighton.

In the film, their characters stand at the A259 cycle lane on Brighton seafront holding placards reading “beep for the bike lane” as abuse, added in post-production, is hurled at them from passing motorists.

“People who don’t care about bike lanes are like people who do not recycle properly,” Lewes’s character claims.

Standing above the A27, Anna’s character says: “If you want to get involved, we’re meeting here at 10am on Saturday.

“We’re going to go up the A23 and then we are going just round the M25.”

The video has been produced by “spoof news” company, Hey News.

Other faux-news reports include a couple upset with the council after being told they could not call their baby Brexit and friends campaigning to get a bench dedicated to Tupac in Lancing.

Despite a satire warning on the company’s Facebook page, some people believed the cycle lane film was a genuine news report.

One person said they tried to inform the police of the plans to ride bicycles on the motorway, but could not work out the website.

The Argus:

Director Ruari Barratt said: “The best way to convince somebody that the fictional character is real is to present them with someone they think they already know.

“Cyclists embody a certain type of person that nobody wants to listen to.

“We chose this as a topic because the new cycle lanes have made our city a flashpoint in a war that refuses to end.

“As a cyclist, motorist and pedestrian, I appreciate the grievances on all sides.

“I hope that one day we can all live in peace, but it’s definitely going to get worse before it gets better.
