A UNIVERSITY has retained its position in the top 20 UK institutions in the world, according to the latest global rankings.

The University of Sussex is the 20th UK institution in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for 2021.

Out of 1,527 institutions globally, the University of Sussex ranks 160th.

Compared with last year, the university improved its scores for research, citations and international outlook, which takes into account the proportion of international students and staff as well as the level of international collaboration.

The THE rankings are the only global performance tables to judge research-intensive universities across all their core missions; teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

The University of Sussex was ranked 59th in the UK in the Guardian newspaper’s annual university league table, which was published last week.
