A SCHOOL has been closed due to flooding.

A burst water main at the junction of Falmer Road and Ovingdean Road has caused the closure of Longhill High School this morning.

Pictures from the scene show the part of the road is submerged in water, with the flooding reaching the school’s gates.

Headteacher Kate Williams has written to parents and carers to explain the situation.

She said: “Thank you for your understanding and support this morning with regards to the emergency situation caused by a mains water pipe bursting on Falmer Road.

The Argus:

“The flooding on the school site forced us to regrettably close the school today.

“Our thoughts and best wishes with all the homes that have been badly affected by this unforeseen situation.

“We made the decision to close the school at the earliest opportunity, when it became evident that it was unsafe for students to attend.
