The implications of the South East Plan on the landscape of this county worry me greatly.

The story "Villagers prepare for battle" (The Argus, November 27) concerning the fight by residents of Lindfield to prevent monstrous plans to build houses on what appears to be pristine countryside is sadly, I fear, the state of things to come.

We live in a beautiful part of the world, and its beauty comes from our natural surroundings.

We all need some haven to escape to when city life gets on top of us. Where will we escape to if our green and pleasant land disappears beneath starter homes and branches of Tesco?

We need to accept we are an island and we cannot support an indefinite population explosion. I for one do not want to live in an England in which the trees have been replaced by tower blocks and the fields by car parks.

We must make a stand. Surely if the Government put some sort of cap on house prices or rent then we would not need these huge plans for affordable new homes?
