How glad I am to read that the postal dispute has come to an end.
As a postman for more than 14 years I have mixed feelings about both the management and the union, which I left in 2004 due to their refusal to get involved in a dispute in the delivery office where I worked.
What I can't understand though is why there is this attitude of changing something when it already works.
The postie has always been a constant in the fabric of this country.
They are honest, hardworking people who do a hard job and do it well.
Who else wants to get up at four in the morning?
It was only this country's acceptance of European rules which broke the postal service.
Once they opened up postal deliveries to other companies the writing was on the wall for the good old postie.
We will end up with our post being delivered by teenage kids. And all this in the name of progress and the free European market.
